How to enter a fax number correctly: +44 or 0044?
+44 and 0044 mean the same thing – both are correct. The key is dropping the leading 0 of the area code: 020 7946 0100 becomes +44 20 7946 0100, or 00442079460100 for email to fax.
Step by step
-
1 Step 1
Choose plus or 00
Start with + or 00, then the country code: 44 for the UK, 49 for Germany, 1 for the US and Canada.
-
2 Step 2
Drop the leading 0 of the area code
After the country code, the 0 of the area code is dropped: 020 becomes 20. +44 020 … would be wrong.
-
3 Step 3
By email: no spaces
For email to fax, the number goes before the @ with 00 or +, without spaces or hyphens, e.g. 00442079460100@fax.mcpfax.de.
-
4 Step 4
Check before sending
In the chat, Claude shows the recognized number and country before you confirm.

Plus forty-four or double zero forty-four? Both are correct, and they mean exactly the same thing. What really matters is something else: the leading zero of the area code is dropped. Let me show you how. The plus sign and the double zero are equivalent. They're followed by the country code: forty-four for the United Kingdom, forty-nine for Germany, and one for the US and Canada. The most common mistake: the zero of the area code is left in. For London, zero twenty becomes just twenty after the country code. Take a look at the example on screen. The same applies by email: the number goes before the at sign with double zero or plus and the country code, without spaces and without hyphens. You can see the full address on screen. In the chat, Claude shows you the recognized number and the country before anything is sent. That way you can see right away whether everything is correct, before you confirm with yes. You'll find the link to mcpfax in the description. How to send a fax to the US is shown in our next video. Subscribe to the channel.
